Most of us are so busy and pulled in so many directions it can be daunting if not impossible to see the forest for the trees. However, in most cases full potential and ultimate success is only achieved when one has a plan — an informed and well thought-out plan based on experience, market intelligence and gut instinct.
The beginning of a new initiative such as the Robolliance that Security Sales & Integration is very proud to be associated with, is a perfect time to step back and fully assess the opportunities and challenges in today’s security marketplace. Doing so is the path to effectively determining where you would like to see yourself and/or business in this ever-shifting, very exciting landscape.
To that end, I have compiled a list of 12 of the most important current security trends (presented in random order), supported by references to actual SSI news headlines of the past year or so.
In particular, notice the inclusion of drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This area would not have appeared on my list from a year ago, and although not there yet I anticipate a year from now the even newer emerging security and surveillance category of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) may very well make the cut.
Robotics overall is rapidly becoming one of the most viable solutions for certain types of commercial/industrial applications, as well as a fascinating and fast-growing opportunity for security integrators. Thanks to amazing advances the past few years, it’s no longer only the fantastical stuff of movies and science fiction (relax; the likes of a real-life Terminator are way off). Deploying today’s robotic machines and devices lessen the exposure of people to hazardous situations and environments, and can offset labor demands to allow manpower to focus human intelligence where it is needed most.
So as you pore through the following key trends, consider also how robotics might lend itself to that application, either as a means to safeguard people or assets, or as a force multiplier, or all of the above. Because the day when you are interacting with or buying or selling one may be sooner than you think. With that, here is my small contribution intended to help you read the tea leaves in the proverbial forest of security issues and technologies.
